The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is situated in the Southeast of the Arabian Peninsula, bordering Oman and Saudi Arabia. In December 1971, the UAE became a federation of six emirates - Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al-Quwain, and Fujairah, while the seventh emirate, Ras Al Khaimah, joined the federation in 1972.

Oman, officially the Sultanate of Oman, is a country located in Western Asia. It is situated on the southeastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula, and spans the mouth of the Persian Gulf:

The Qatari peninsula was close enough to the Dilmun civilization in Bahrain to have felt its influence. When the people of Dilmun started to engage in maritime activities, around 2100, in 1700 BC, the people of Qatar also developed the extensive pearl farming activity. The Qataris were engaged in the trade of pearls and date palms at that time.
